Cloud 9

Values_4 Look what I made!

This is a topic-cloud-style collage of words reflecting the principles we want our wedding to embody. Jeremy and I made this list together (although I'll take credit for the fancy graphic representation, as well as the jumbled parts of speech); It's fairly reductive and a little cute, but useful to me for visualizing themes, as well as re-framing the planning process in a non-linear way. After all, even the best-intentioned planning guide can turn into a neurotic, carved-in-stone to-do list, the visionary stage of which starts and ends twelve months before your wedding!

Before I launch into a detailed exploration of each of these principles individually, I just wanted to present them all together, along with a few descriptive attributes, and graphically suggest some of the relationships between them. This has always been one of my favorite exercises - writing down monikers for a bunch of big ideas, drawing connecting lines between them, and then watching the relationships reveal themselves. Some of them are obvious, such as the relationship between play and pleasure, but others are more elusive: what does abundance mean for sustainability? For love? For embodied feminism? For improvisation and art?

As you can see, I've left a lot of room for new inspiration - mine, Jeremy's, and yours.  If you have ideas, please share them!

What about FA-MUH-RY!!!!!!!! :)

Darlingest Katelit,

Reading your blog makes me feel like I'm getting to be a part of the planning with you each step of the way. Having your blog to read makes the distance between us (physically) seem less daunting. I'm still so excited for you both!

Can't wait to see you in less than a week!

Love,
Al
